One of last year's Honorary Captains (Denny Schuler)
The tradition of Honorary Captains was revived
during the 1994 season to honor past Oregon football lettermen
and others who have made athletic contributions to the University.
The Honorary Captain Order of the “O”
board member selects the captains for each home game at Autzen.
Game captains are selected two at a time for every game through
a review of past football letter winners and nominations that
are directed to them.
It is a unique and enjoyable experience
when the captains are introduced prior to kick-off of each home
game with brief recap of their playing career and personal life.
They then accompany the Oregon team captains to center of the
field for the coin toss.
This process serves as a way to honor
those athletes who have played, lettered and given so much to
the University through their efforts, loyalty and pride in being
recognized as a Duck.
